You're doing the right thing by seeking answers for your child.
BrightPath is here for your child — and for you. This page is your space for encouragement, self-care, and community.
Self-Care for Parents
You can't advocate effectively if you're running on empty. Here are small, evidence-backed ways to look after yourself.
Breathe first
When stress hits, try box breathing: inhale 4 seconds, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4. It activates your calm-down system in under a minute.
Set a 'worry window'
Give yourself 15 minutes a day to worry about IEPs, evaluations, and next steps — then close the window. The rest of the day is yours.
Connect with one person
Text a friend, call a family member, or post in a parent group. One real human connection a day makes a measurable difference.
Move your body
Even 10 minutes of walking releases endorphins. You don't need a gym — a lap around the block counts.
Protect your sleep
Research is clear: sleep deprivation amplifies anxiety. Set a non-negotiable bedtime for yourself, not just your child.
Write it down
Journaling for even 5 minutes helps process emotions. Write what happened, how you felt, and one thing you're grateful for.
Say no to one thing
You can't pour from an empty cup. It's okay to skip the bake sale, decline the extra meeting, or let the laundry wait.
Celebrate your effort
You researched, you showed up, you advocated. That matters — even when it doesn't feel like enough.

You're doing the right thing by seeking answers for your child.
Advocating for your child takes courage — and you're already doing it.
No one knows your child better than you. Trust your instincts.
Progress isn't always linear. Every small step matters.
You don't have to have all the answers today. You just have to keep showing up.
It's okay to feel overwhelmed. What you're doing is hard — and important.
Remember: seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. You're doing an amazing job.
